I'd wish I'd be the last one. Child rape and the time after.
An authentic report.
- Olga Masur wrote Ich wollt´ ich waer´ die Letzte. Kindesvergewaltigung und die Zeit danach. Ein authentischer Bericht to obtain more public attention for a crime which is too often kept a family secret.
Domestic violence, child abuse and rape have always been issues that are very important, but victims often remain silent and are therefore not able to influence life circumstances of today´s children. Due to the exposure to abuse Olga Masur had throughout her childhood, she would like, on the one hand, to provide information and support for people who have faced such terrifying issues.
On the other hand, the book emerged from a long period in Masur´s adult life, when she was waiting for the results of a trial she had initiated as proceedings against a family member.
Her book was published in German in 1998 and immediately attained a large circulation. The second edition came out recently and can be ordered at any German bookshop or through the Internet.
To draw your attention to this very important book, the following lines from the blurb are translated from German into English:
- "Masur´s autobiography is convincing by its original and authentic tone. The horrors of sexual child abuse could be imagined, while the reader is compassionately affected by the author´s capacity to let her/him participate. Just as if the reader is growing up with the author.
Statistics and results from research are integrated in the text, in that way elucidating the social order which facilitates the crime of sexual child abuse and rape.
The book is thus oscillating between autobiography and documentation."
The author is available for information lectures. Please visit her own website at URL http://www.w4w.net/olga-masur/ There you can find - in German - among other things extracts from the book, newspaper articles about Masur, interviews she gave to the press and some useful links.
Masur is a member of MENSA, a society for bright people, the only qualification for membership of which is a score at or above the 98th percentile on a standard test of intelligence (for further information about MENSA International see URL http://www.mensa.org).
